Climate Change - a major change in weather patterns caused by a variety of reasons, including ocean processes, solar activity, volcanic eruptions and human activity.
Coral Reef Protection - keeping coral reefs healthy. Coral reef destruction can be caused by water pollution from factories and farms, human sewage, and also damage from boat anchors and accidental groundings.
Endangered Species - a species that will likely become extinct (no longer existing). Many nations have laws that protect these species by forbidding hunting and creating nature preserves.
Erosion - the process by which wind or water remove the soil from one location and move it to another place.
Fresh Surface Water - naturally occurring water with low levels of salt content that is found in ice sheets, ice caps, glaciers, icebergs, ponds, lakes, rivers, streams and underground aquifers (underground water supply existing in rocks or gravel).
Global Warming - a continual rise in the average temperature of Earth's climate system.
Habitat Destruction - the process in which a natural habitat is damaged and unable to support the species that live in that area.
Invasive Species - a non-native species that is introduced to an area. A plant or animal that multiplies quickly, disrupting the balance of an ecosystem and crowding out other species.
Air Pollution - the introduction of chemicals or harmful materials into the Earth's atmosphere, possibly causing disease or damage to living organisms.
Rainforest Preservation - tropical rainforests have a warm and wet climate that is home to many different species of plants and animals. It is important to protect the rainforests because they help to stabilize the world's climate by absorbing carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases, as well as producing oxygen that humans and other animals need to live. In addition, rainforests maintain a balanced water cycle and protect against flooding, drought and erosion. They are also an important source of medicines and foods.
